Hi, I'm Ruaraidh
I'm a woodworker and designer based in New Zealand's stunning Fiordland. My focus is on crafting one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture and small-batch wood products.
With a keen eye for detail, my work blends traditional and modern techniques with the aim of creating a refined, modern-rustic style.
Every piece I make is carefully designed to elevate the natural beauty of solid wood while maintaining practicality & function. I believe in working closely with you to design made-to-measure projects and build heirloom-quality pieces that will last the test of time.
Originally from Scotland, I made New Zealand my home in 2020 and have lived in Te Anau since 2022. I take pride in my role as a GP for the friendly community of Te Anau and am immensely grateful to be able to enjoy my woodwork alongside my medical career.
My workshop is open to custom orders and I'm eager to hear your ideas!

Why Torwood?
Torwood is the small village in central Scotland where I grew up. The 'Tor Wood' is steeped in history & myth and is home to the ruined 16th century Torwood Castle, the remains of an Iron-age Broch and an ancient woodland. I have fond memories of exploring the forest and castle as a kid and, as an adult, can see how much I leaned about nature and the forest's lifecycle just by being immersed in it. I feel the name connects me to my roots meaningfully, carries a sense of strength and inspires me to create work worthy of the name!

Fiordland
Fiordland is my home and what a wonderful home it is! Soaring snowcapped mountains, endless impenetrable forests, rugged dramatic coastlines and innumerable sparkling lakes make Fiordland one of the world's most iconic wilderness areas. It gives me great pride to be able to say I design and create in such a unique and inspiring environment and I believe Fiordland's natural beauty influences my work even more than I am consciously aware.
