I was very lucky to be trusted to make this dining set for a friend last year. She contributed the reclaimed Rimu floor boards which were rescued following a fire. Together we decided on the design of a pedestal base in a modern style, combined with a more rustic top with traditional breadboard ends. Leaning into the varied colours of the boards, the fire-scorched ones being particularly dark, gives the table and benches one-of-a-kind quality and serves as a reminder of their origins - A wonderful new lease of life for a nearly-lost stack of native timber.
