Live Edge TV Cabinet
One of my early furniture projects. Leaning into the beautiful live-edge of this thick Macrocarpa slab as the main feature I decided to mount it on a simple, stylish, modern cabinet in a complimentary matt-blue colour.
As this was an early project in my woodworking journey the cabinet is built from MDF. Medium Density Fibreboard is often frowned upon in woodworking, however, it is very affordable and stable ensuring the structure remains solid regardless of temperature and humidity changes - a significant issue in New Zealand! With attention to detail and thoughtful design, products like MDF & Plywood can be finished to a high standard and certainly have their place in cabinet making!
While solid wood is nicer to work worth and overall more durable, I am certainly open to the idea of using MDF and Plywood in projects where necessary for stability of affordability.
