The Scorched Stool
A one-off study in technique & design. This small decorative stool pairs a hand-turned maple seat with rimu legs finished in shou sugi ban, the traditional Japanese method of surface-charring timber for depth, texture, and a naturally durable finish. The seat carries a turned & burned decorative rebate on its topside and edge and legs are joined with blind wedge-tenon joinery, hidden but doing all the work. Finished with Torwood's branded maker's mark.
As with all of my products, this piece is made in small batches (in this case, a batch of one) and is therefore completely unique.

Product Care
Wipe down with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and damp environments. The charred leg finish will mellow gracefully with age and handling; this is normal and part of the shou sugi ban character. Occasional re-application of wood butter to the maple seat is recommended.
